Introduction:

Rolwaling valley n Tashi Laptsa pass trek is an ideal trek for adventurous searching to be on the less trekked route in the complete wilderness with the mesmerizing mountain scenery of high massif Himalaya. This trek leads to the vicinity of the North mid-East of Rolwaling to the Khumbu region and near to the Tibetan border with panoramic stunning mountain views of Mid – Eastern Himalayan range of Nepal.  This region is known for its magnificent mountain views, diverse flora and fauna and rich local Sherpa cultures. Mt. Gaurishankar 7,134 m / 23,405 ft, along with Dorje Lakpa, Melungtse and many other mountains of high Himalaya.

This region is influenced by Tibetan culture as it lies close to the Tibetan border. This provides a grand opportunity to become more familiar with Tibetan culture, tradition and lifestyle. The Rolwaling valley is supposed to be the home of mysterious and disreputable ‘Yeti’. The Yeti is also known as Abominable Snowman that looks like an ape and incomprehensible taller than average human beings which are said to be the inhabitant of Rolwaling and another Himalayan region of Nepal and Tibet. The native people of this region usually talk about Yeti as they are part of their legendary history and mythology.

This cultural and adventurous trek starts from Dolakha Bazaar and unto Gongat area which is just 162 km east to the Kathmandu valley. One can notice fewer tea houses/lodges during the trek as this region lies in the remote corner of Nepal near the Tibetan border. Then trek up to the highest pass of this trip at Tashi Lapcha pass 5,755 meters, after crossing Bedding and Na village, then traversing the pass, the trail leads to Tengpo in the Khumbu region. After spending the first night in Khumbu area trek to Thame, Namche, Monjo, and Phakding and finally to Lukla for the return short scenic flight to Kathmandu after a memorable adventure with Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions.

Day 01:  Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour.
Day 03: Drive to near Gongar 1,400 m via Charikot-07 hrs journey.
Day 04: Trek to Simigaon 2,000 m- 05 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Dovan  2,850m -06 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Beding 3,690m -06 hrs.
Day 07:  Rest day for acclimatization and short hike around.
Day 08: Trek to Na Gaon 4,180m – 04hrs.
Day 09: Trek to Kabuk at Tsho Rolpa 4,560m – 05 hrs.
Day 10:  Trek to Drolambau Glacier near Tashi Laptsa BC 5,400 m -05 hrs.
Day 11:   Cross Tashi Laptsa Pass 5,755m and trek to Tengpo 4,370 m- 08 hrs.
Day 12:  Trek to Thame  3,820 m / 12,530 ft -05 hrs.
Day 13:  Trek to Namche Bazaar  3,570 m / 11,710 ft -04 hrs.
Day 14:   Morning free at Namche then trek to Monjo 2,830 m -04 hrs.
Day 15:   Trek to Lukla 2,820 m -04 hrs.
Day 16:   Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.
Day 17:   In Kathmandu free day at leisure.
Day 18:  Transfer to airport for international departure.

 

 

Day 01:  Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival in Kathmandu, you are warmly greeted by our Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). SME representatives will assist then transfer to respective hotels.  

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour.

In Kathmandu sightseeing program includes visit of world heritage sites the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the world biggest Stupa; Boudhhanath, known as little Tibet, Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple) located on a hillside one of the oldest religious spot of more than 2,500 years old and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with unique architectural temple, and the virgin Kumari known as Living Goddess in Basantapur at central Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only naturally beautiful but it also holds the beauty of incredible Newar people culture with ancient architecture.

Day 03: Drive to near Gongar 1,400 m via Charikot-07 hrs journey.
Morning drive on the scenic Kathmandu-Lhasa highway, an interesting drive on the foothills of the Himalaya, passing several villages and towns on reaching at Charikot the drive diverts from the main road to dirt road on the road towards Dolkha and Rolwaling area journey continues passing farm villages and finally reaching at Gongar nearby the river close to the border of Tibet but in the warm area where rice still grown around this area overnight camp after a long exciting journey.

Day 04: Trek to Simigaon 2,000 m- 05 hrs.
First day of this great adventure leads to the west bank of the Tama Koshi, which narrows into a gorge then reaching Chetchet and its beautiful waterfall, on leaving the warm area with an uphill trek into alpine region to the village of Simi gaun, after the steep portion the walk leads to a gradual ascend up to campsite near the monastery at Simigaon a Sherpa farm village yielding corns, potatoes, wheat, barley and millets, after reaching the camp with time to visit the village with striking views of the landscapes and tall peaks of Gaurishanker & Melungatse.

Day 05: Trek to Dovan  2,850m -06 hrs.
After Simigaon second day of this wonderful walk leads towards north east the path climbs up through the farm terraces on leaving the farm fields and then into the forest of magnolia, rhododendron and pine forests and pasture with clearing used for summer grazing, the climate changes to cooler alpine weather difference from lush Tama Koshi to the mountainside of Rolwaling Valley, trek continues above hillside and then downhill to the river passing several Sheppard’s huts in Gyalche, on reaching the valley to the overnight camp at Dovan, a small place in the midst of the forest with one or two huts.

Day 06: Trek to Beding 3,690m -06 hrs.
Morning walk leads to cross the Rolwaling Khola (stream) then the trail winds up through the forest, the way leads to gentle climb then reaching to a clearing along small place of  Nyimare, Ramding settlements and to the farm fields then finally ending day trek at Bedding with overnight camp nearby the village after the camp is set to time to visit Bedding village. It is the main large Sherpa village in Rolwaling Valley, placed in a narrow gorge with its old monastery at the top of the village, about more than thirty houses this village has a primary school built with help of Hillary foundation.

Day 07: Rest day for acclimatization and short hike around.
A rest day to acclimatize before heading towards our high destinations trek and climb of Parchamo and crossing of high pass Tashi Laptsa higher this area offers a short hike visiting around the village and for best views of Mt.Gaurishanker and Melangatse.

Day 08: Trek to Na Gaon 4,180m – 04hrs.
On leaving the last village of Bedding till the adventure ends at Khumbu region walking into high mountain wilderness with increasing altitude of high mountains, today a short. Walk uphill for about four hours following the Rolwaling River, with excellent views of the high rolling hills landscapes and high peaks. Trek leads for few hours then the Na Gaon the end of Rolwaling valley widens into a glaciated U-shaped. Finally the walk reaches to the overnight camp at Na a scattered Sheppard’s and farm village temporary settlements of Beding people, it is a summer yarsa  or a grazing field the crops that they grow are potatoes, buckwheat and barley it houses a small crude built monastery from the camp at Na nice views of Chobutse peak at 6,689m above the Tsho Rolpa at the junction of Ripimo Shar and Trakarding glaciers.

Day 09: Trek to Kabuk at Tsho Rolpa 4,560m – 05 hrs.
Morning walk after a wonderful time here leads to the very end of Rolwaling Valley, crossing the river and then following a stream to cross near Yak grazing pasture at Sangma, the last area of the Sheppard’s, then from here cross the wooden bridge with a climb up on the moraines, climbing steeply to a stream finally reaching at a moraine, near the dammed Tsho Rolpa. This lake also known as Cho Pokhari, the campsite is pitched on sandy flat field south side of Tsho Rolpa at Kabuk with wonderful views of Tsoboje 6,689 m and. Dragker-Go 6,793 m.

Day 10: Trek to Drolambau Glacier near Tashi Laptsa BC 5,400 m -05 hrs.
A true wilderness around this area and more of it as the trek continues to a climb above the moraine at the north side of the Tsho Lake, the walk follows higher ground above the glacier, trekking to the center of the rocky glacier to the campsite beneath Drolambu ice-fall. Afternoon time our guides will scout the area for the best applicable route over the Tashi Laptsa due to the movement of the glacier and rockfall the path changes every year.

Day 11: Cross Tashi Laptsa Pass 5,755m and trek to Tengpo 4,370 m- 08 hrs.
An early start for the big day of this trip, before sunrise walk towards the glacier for an hour, then it leads to a spur with an easy climbing route on the upper glacier, from here needs fixing ropes and making steps-ledge for porters and kitchen staff, the climb is not a big problem but cautious is required to avoid fatal accidents in this high enclosed mountain landscapes. When everyone in the group including porters are well prepared the climb begins for near 04 hours in this mysterious wild landscapes scenery leading to the top of Tashi Laptsa at 5,755 m this awesome height is more than a pass for some it will be a climb of a small Himalayan peak, on the top is festooned with Buddhist prayer flags and cairns, then descend towards Khumbu region at a summer pasture at Tengpo for overnight camp.

Day 12: Trek to Thame  3,820 m / 12,530 ft -05 hrs.

On this day we trek to Thame with a long day walk after a steep descend towards Tengpo then following the small stream making our gradual descend, encounter only a few houses and less vegetation on the way walking in the alpine zone. The trail crosses the tiny village of Khure Goth and brings us to Thame Village. Thame is famous for being the birthplace of Tenzing Norgay (The first person to climb over Mt. Everest and of Apa Sherpa who has climbed 20 times a world record holder.

Day 13:  Trek to Namche Bazaar  3,570 m / 11,710 ft -04 hrs.

Leaving Thame, with a good morning walk with downhill to cross a small suspension bridge, an awesome Buddhist Rock Wall Paintings on the wall of a high hill, walk through the forest and following Bhote Koshi River to reach the village of Thame, encountering several monasteries on the way to Namche bazaar. The trail descends to the biggest market hub of the Everest region, Namche with enough time for lunch and relax in a bakery that serves coffee and cakes, and provides Internet access…

Day 14: Morning free at Namche then trek to Monjo 2,830 m -04 hrs.
A leisure morning at Namche Bazaar after lunch head downhill towards Dudh-Kosi River valley and reach Monjo village with a gradual walk entering the Sagarmatha National Park office the entrance and exit of this National park which is listed in the World Heritage from here short distance bring you in the nice lodge at Monjo for the overnight stop.

Day 15: Trek to Lukla 2,820 m -04 hrs.
The last day walk of this great adventure with an easy gradual trail through the village of  Phakding following the Dudh Kosi, after crossing the bridge at Phakding a nice pleasant trek with few short ups and downs to Lukla, on reaching Lukla the last dinner with the trekking staffs and porters.

Day 16: Fly to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.
The flight time to Kathmandu, are schedule for morning normally, because of the wind in the afternoon, sometime the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason, depending upon the flight time make way to the terminal for security check, this scenic flight from Lukla takes about 30 minutes to Kathmandu, a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks can be seen during the flight. Arriving at Kathmandu’s domestic terminal, our staff will receive and transfer you back to the Hotel.

Day 17: In Kathmandu free day at leisure.
A free day in Kathmandu, please inform our staff if you would like to go on another short tour in and around Kathmandu Valley.

Day 18: Transfer to airport for international departure.
Today as per your international flight time, keep your confirmed air ticket, and your passport handy. Our staff will take you to the airport for your final departure from this amazing country, Nepal.
