Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

‘Ghorepani Poonhill Trek’ is undoubtedly the right choice for those who have limited time and choice of moderate trek. Ghorepani at 2,864 m offers breathtaking scenery of Himalayan panoramas with few days trekking from the scenic Pokhara.

Poonhill is another highlight of this trek which offers panoramic views of sunrise over the high Himalayan chain of mountains with stunning views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South (7,220m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), Machapuchhere also known as Fish Tail Peak (6,993m), Nilgiri (7,061m) and more massive Himalaya towards further east.

The old Trans Himalayan Slat Trade route provides few strenuous days in with long stone steps at Ulleri village and tranquil forest of rhododendrons, maple, oaks and pines trees with diverse culture, traditions and religions with constant views of snow capped mountains. This trek is a short Annapurna Circuit that combines moderate walking with majestic scenery and a mixture of cultures.

This trek allows you to explore wonderful villages of the famous Gurkhas soldiers of the Himalayan mid hills and unique culture of mountain people of this region with magnificent scenery of the Himalayan vistas.

Note: This trip is popular during Christmas and Winter as well.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu with sightseeing tour.
Day 03: Drive to Pokhara 823m (2,700ft) – 06 hrs journey.
Day 04: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga 1,577m (5,173ft) – 02 hrs ride with 04 hrs walks.
Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani 2,864m (9,350ft) – 06 hrs.
Day 06: Hike to Poon hill and trek to Tadapani 2,500m (8332ft) – 06 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Landruk 1,530m via Gandruk 1,850m – 06 hrs.
Day 08: Trek to Australian Camp / Thulo Kharka 2, 050m – 05 hrs.
Day 09: Trek to Kande and drive to Pokhara 850m (2,789ft) 2 hrs walk with an hour ride.
Day 10: Drive back to Kathmandu 1,350m (4,428ft) – 06 hrs journey.
Day 11: International departure.

Note: On short trip we have extension program like paragliding, ultra light flights, white water or scenic rafting and jungle safari at Asia’s famous Chitwan National Park.

Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On arrival in Kathmandu, you are warmly greeted by our Sherpa Mountaineering Expeditions staff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). SME representatives will assist then transfer to respective hotels.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing tour.
In Kathmandu sightseeing program includes visit of world heritage sites the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the world biggest Stupa; Boudhhanath, known as little Tibet, Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple) located on a hill side one of the oldest religious spot of more than 2,500 years old and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with unique architectural temple, and the virgin Kumari known as Living Goddess in Basantapur at central Kathmandu. Kathmandu is not only naturally beautiful but it also holds the beauty of incredible Newar people culture with ancient architectures.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara 823m (2,700ft) – 06 hrs journey.
After a good breakfast begin this trip with a drive to Pokhara enjoying the great views of Himalayans above top of green hills, drive follows the Prithvi Highway till it reach at Pokhara passing interesting landscapes, villages and towns. On reaching at Pokhara check into respective hotels by the Lake Phewa (Fewa).

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga 1,577m (5,173ft) – 2 hrs drive with 04 hrs walks.
After a breakfast, a drive of 02 hours to reach Nayapul which is just west to the Pokhara city. Form Nayapul, commence trek by crossing a steel suspension bridge and continue trek to reach Birethanti, a prosperous town situated in the riverbank of Modi River. The trail further climbs to the west and leads us to the village of Tikhedhunga via Hile, overnight at Tikhedhunga.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani 2,850m (9,350ft) – 06 hrs.
The trail steeply ascends on the long stone steps to Ulleri village via rhododendron and oak forest. The trail offers completely magnificent views of High Himalayas scenery and crosses several streams till it reaches at Ghorepani with marvelous views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan range.

Day 06: Hike to Poon-hill and trek to Tadapani 2,640m (8,385ft) – 06 hrs.
Early morning hike to Poonhill which is just south west to the village of Ghorepani. The trail gently climbs up via rhododendron and oak forest and brings you to mesmerizing at Poonhill. The stunning sunrise of early morning views from here is completely overwhelming, with enough time to capture this precious moment, descend back to Ghorepani via same path. The trail continues with few ups and downs via rhododendron and oak forests and brings you another magnificent village of Tadapani.

Day 07: Trek to Landruk 1,530m via Gandruk 1,850m – 06 hrs.
Leaving Tadapani, the trail descends through rhododendron and oak forest offering magnificent views of giant mountains and brings to a very popular Gurung village of Ghandruk. The main ethnic people of this village are Gurungs who have their unique lifestyle and traditions. You can explore the tradition, customs, lifestyle and religion of the Gurung people. Ghandruk is a very popular village in Annapurna region with easy trails and very good accommodation facilities. After a break here descend to Modi River and climb for an hour to the Landruk village for the overnight stop with majestic views of Annapurna South and Huinchuli peaks.

Day 08: Trek to Australian Camp / Thulo Kharka 2,050m – 05 hrs.
After breakfast tackle this wonderful morning walk enjoying the charming natural beauty to reach at Tolka village from here with few short ups and down walk with 45 minutes climb to Deuarli at 2,100 m a wonderful spot with grand views of surrounding landscapes and snow capped mountains of Mt.Dhaulagiri, Annapurna range of mountains with magnificent Mt. Machapuchere (Fish Tail) Peak. After a good stop trek down through serene forest to Pothana a small settlements with about ten lodges with super views of mountains, from here an hour of gradual up hill brings you at the magnificent spot at Australian Camp or Thulo Kharka for the last night stop in the high mid hills with stunning panorama views of the mountains.

Day 09: Trek to Kande and drive to Pokhara 850m (2,789ft) – 2 hrs walk with an hour ride.
After a wonderful time here descend down to the road head at Kande on the Baglung, Beni-Pokhara highway for one hour drive back to scenic Pokhara for the overnight stop by the lake Phewa with time in the afternoon to wander around. Pokhara is the second largest sub-metropolitan city of Nepal with many lakes like Fewa, Rupa and Begnas, with panorama of fascinating mountains with the reflection on the lake.

Day 10: A scenic drive to Kathmandu 1,350m (4,428ft) – 05 hrs.
Morning drive to Kathmandu enjoying the great views of Himalayans above the top of green hills, this scenic interesting drive of near six hours to reach Kathmandu on arrival check into respective hotels with time for walk around busy Thamel area.

Day 11: Final departure for home ward bound.
SME office staff assists you with the complimentary transfer to airport for your departure flight to your onward destinations your wonderful moments with us we will treasure it for many years to come.
